Job Location: Remote

The Data Systems Analyst position works under the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Immunization Branch, Data Quality Unit. The Data Systems Analyst position involves evaluating, testing, documenting, and marketing quality assurance (QA) tools for the California Immunization Registry software (CAIR2). Over four million Health Level Seven International (HL7) vaccination messages are sent to CAIR2 each month from California immunization provider’s Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. The Data Systems Analyst position will assess all incoming HL7 vaccination messages against the Centers for Disease Contol (CDC) Immunization Information System (IIS) Core Data Elements (CDE) to assist in developing a data quality improvement (DQI) plan for prioritizing and increasing CDE submission rates by providers. The position will lead data quality improvement activities, including analysis and outreach activies to improve the data quality of incoming HL7 vaccination messages. The postion assists in the deployment, testing, and marketing for the new DQI tools scheduled in upcoming CAIR2 software realeases.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum one year directly related experience.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with other professionals and other staff; ability to write effectively in English.
  • Interpersonal skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Working understanding of Quality Assurance (QA) testing and procedures.
  • Self-motivated, ability to learn quickly, meet deadlines, works independently and as part of a team and demonstrate problem-solving skills; detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL Developer, SOAP UI, HL7 analysis tools, database software.
  • Experience in Immunization Information Systems (e.g. CAIR2) and basic immunization knowledge.
  • Experience with HL7 messaging, with emphasis on Unsolicited Vaccination Updates (VXU) messages.
