The Business Intelligence Solution Developer III

  • Serves as a mentor and project lead.
  • Establishes and maintains a consultative and/or collaborative partnership with business owners, stakeholders, leadership and technical teams.
  • Is responsible for collaborating with business owners to gather explicit business requirements for business intelligence solutions.
  • Is responsible for developing, maintaining and deploying business intelligence solutions that support the strategic objectives, mission and business intelligence strategy of the health system.
  • Collaborates with technical teams and EDW teams to develop needed data infrastructure for respective business intelligence solutions.
  • Supports business intelligence tools and systems, and end-users of these tools and systems.
  • Contributes to and supports data and analytic governance, process and tool documentation, data and analytic asset inventories, and business intelligence knowledge base documentation.

Skills, Knowledge, Education And Experience

  • Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education, certifications and experience required.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, Predictive Analytics, IT-related, or Math preferred.
  • Microsoft certifications include the MTA, MCSE.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in business intelligence solution development (data engineering and/or application development) and/or data analysis of complex, large data sets required, preferably in healthcare.
  • Advanced experience designing and deploying business intelligence solutions based on knowledge of healthcare data, healthcare operations, clinical quality, revenue cycle, and health information technology required. Solutions may include data tables/views/cubes, user interfaces (UIs), predictive analytics, dashboards, scorecards, reports, clinical decision support.

Essential Functions

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Serves as mentor and lead of project teams and business intelligence solution design teams.
  • Designs, builds, tests, and implements business intelligence solutions; providing at-the-elbow support and training to end-users.
  • Works with business owners/team to develop and administer project work plans and timelines for timely delivery of business intelligence deliverables; tracking and regularly reporting out on assigned project timelines, milestones, and project completion.
  • Collaborates with technical team (e.g. architects, developers) and business owners to gather and define business driver information needs, data flows/structures needs and data quality needs for respective business intelligence solution implementations.
  • Collaborates with TIS team supporting web solutions to deploy business intelligence solutions according to protocol and integrated in to online intranet, e.g. Sharepoint, per Analytic Portal plan.
  • Coordinates/conducts processes, testing, audits and regular monitoring to ensure data quality and solution accuracy; establishing and maintaining quality assurance processes as needed.
  • Tracks and reports solution use/adoption and end-user perceived effectiveness to ensure solutions are consistent with defined business need and are a positive ROI of resource allocation.
  • Synthesizes business intelligence and trend/benchmarking data to generate standard or custom solutions that support recommendations for action readily consumable by business owners.
  • Creates/maintains business intelligence methods, databases, dashboards, tools or systems.
  • Creates/maintains documentation of knowledge assets, e.g. models, business rules, technical specifications (data mapping, data flows, dashboard content, data dictionaries).
  • Mines data from medical systems and data bases, conducting analyses and identifying data integrity issues to be vetted through the Health System data governance structure for escalation and resolution.
  • Advanced ability to translate business questions into data requirements and business intelligence.
  • Advanced computer skills in business intelligence applications and/or statistical analysis software, e.g., Microsoft Business Intelligence suite, Sharepoint, Microsoft Office (Excel, Access), SAS, Tableau, Minitab, Matlab, VBA/SQL/MySQL/T-SQL/R/Python, Crystal Reports, Business Objects.
  • Advanced ability in web development programming/coding/scripting languages or frameworks preferred, e.g. HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, C#, ASP.NET, VB.NET, MVC.
  • Knowledge of database structures, data modeling, ETL, MDM, data mining, data auditing and technical documentation required.
  • Knowledge of software system testing and support required.
  • Knowledge of applied research, statistical and financial analysis required.
