The Southeast Permanente Medical Group, (TSPMG)/ Kaiser Permanente is happy to announce a remote* opportunity for an Extracting, Transforming and Loading (ETL) Developer. This individual will operate as a software engineer that designs, builds, and maintains Kaiser Permanente GA’s data warehouse Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) using the Microsoft SQL Server platform. The ETL Developer’s role consists of three functions: *remote for GA residents only
- Analyzing ETL requirements, the source data, and the target data model
- Designing ETL processes
- Building and maintaining ETLs
The ideal candidate will need a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university / college in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant business experience. And, individuals must have a minimum of 5 years of experience with data warehousing and ETL development on the Microsoft SQL Server platform.
Minimum Education And/or Qualifications
- 5 years of SQL procedure- and query-writing skills.
- 5 years of SSIS development experience.
- Experience with extracting data from diverse source systems.
- Understanding of the basic data warehouse design principles (the Kimball methodology).
- Customer-oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Highly effective analytical, decision-making, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to investigate complex business problems, develop effective recommendations, negotiate and/or present solutions, and resolve problems in a highly professional and tactful manner.
Preferred Education And/or Qualifications
- Master’s degree in computer science
Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Work with the Data Architect and business analysts to confirm requirements and validate the design.
- Implement the ETL using Microsoft Sql Server SQL Stored Procedures and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services).
- Extract data from diverse sources, including various database systems, operational systems, and flat files.
- Stage data for further processing using database queries, file transfers/load via FTP, source system APIs.
- Load the data into the dimensional data model.
- Monitor and update ETLs over time, including optimizing ETL performance.
- Test and optimize the ETL process and its parts (extraction, transformation, and load).
- Suggest improvements to the overall ETL architecture to the Data Architect.
- Maintain cutting-edge ETL skills.
- All these are using Microsoft SQL Server platform and tools.
