Responsibilities
• Provide medium to long-term power market fundamental analysis for ERCOT, supporting origination, trading and business development teams.
• Monitor fundamental drivers such as policy, regulations, market trends, renewable builds, retirements, transmission changes and other relevant market trends to identify opportunities and challenges.
• Maintain and run 3rd party model such as Aurora to help develop forward views of fundamentals and prices.
• Evaluate and forecast power plant performance and economics.
• Track and Identify risks of third-party vendor data and forward analysis
• Utilize advanced modelling techniques to determine the relationship between energy market variables and correlations between power and gas.
• Develop models and dashboards to help visualize power market forecast and fundamentals.
• Prepare and present fundamental analysis and price outlooks to executive management.
• Network with industry counterparts in order to stay abreast new information that may impact power markets.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others in the organization including Trading, IT, and Corporate Strategy personnel.
• Participate in the evolution of the new business.
Required
• Bachelor’s Degree preferably with a concentration in Business, Finance, Economics or Engineering
• 5+ years direct power market analytics experience
• Hands-on experience with power market forecasting models such as Aurora, Plexos, Promod, or UPlan.
• Demonstrated understanding of Power Market fundamentals in US.
• Modeling and market experience in ERCOT and/or the Eastern Interconnection is preferred.
• A natural curiosity about energy markets and the ability to develop forecasts that may be contrary to consensus
• Proven track record of being able to transform fundamental research into salient, actionable analysis/advice.
• Extensive knowledge of data interaction or use of different data frameworks. Ex: programming skills or direct database querying ability
• Solid experience with report building and visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, etc.
• Skilled in economic analysis and analytical reasoning
• Experience managing dynamic workflow and multiple projects
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
