Software Senior Principal Engineer – Developer Experience

What you’ll achieve

Dell Technologies is currently looking for an experienced Software Senior Principal Engineer who will be a senior technical DevOps lead within our global APEX Developer Experience team! You will play a key role in the smooth delivery of high-value features that enhance productivity for our APEX Engineering organization. This includes, but is not limited to, build infrastructure, artifact generation/management, tooling evaluation, selection, integration and support, and automated onboarding and deployment. You will work, and interact regularly, with software engineers of all levels (cloud microservice development and IT), Technical Operations, Infrastructure, SecOps, Product Marketing and other Scrum teams – all operating within Scrum-at-Scale framework best practices.

You will:

• Leverage your extensive senior-level experience, and expertise in state-of-the-art DevOps Best Practices, to educate, evangelize and progress initiatives across a global development organization

• Commit to leading, coaching and mentoring team member, and advising team members across the organization

• Advise, problem solve and consult on strategy with leadership

• Partner with product owners and APEX engineering teams on design, requirements, and implementation

• Design and implement end-to-end solutions for Source Control, Continuous Integration, Infrastructure Automation, Deployment Automation & Orchestration

• Work with Github, Jira, Confluence, Artifactory, Kubernetes and Docker

• Collaborate cross-functionally with teams, contributing to driving the software development process towards quality-centric methodologies with improved reliability and stability

• Proactively analyze current software delivery processes and practices and then suggest and drive improvements

• Make well-informed cost/benefit-based decisions on all aspects of DevOps and tooling, based on real-world professional experience

• Along with the team, create end-to-end pipelines for microservices in Jenkins with shared Groovy libraries, and maintain deployments in various environments

• Provide troubleshooting support to development teams, with a “delight the customer” focus

Here’s what we are looking for with this role:

Highly Desirable Requirements

• 12+ years DevOps/Development project leadership experience, deploying and maintaining global multi-tiered infrastructures and applications and leading projects, including mentoring junior team members

• Strong presentation and demo skills to all levels, including executives

• Programming experience with Python, Golang and/or scripting (or similar programming experience)

• Strong experience creating CI|CD pipelines in Jenkins and/or other environments

• Deployment automation across several instances

• Deep understanding of, and robust practical experience, with container technology such as Kubernetes/Docker

• Sound experience and understanding of microservice deployment with minimal downtime

• Understanding of OOP concepts, especially with Groovy-based pipelines

• Working experience with GIT, merging and branching strategies

• Working knowledge and practice within Agile development frameworks (Scrum, SAFE, Scrum at Scale)

• Experience working in Cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud or Pivotal Cloud Foundry

Desirable Requirements

• Infrastructure Automation using tools such as Puppet, Chef and/or Ansible

• PKS Cluster administration and production support

• Experience with Istio, micro-services, RDBMS and NoSQL databases
