About This Job
The Data Analyst provides reporting, business intelligence and analysis to the Commercial Lines of Business and functional department management. The analyst utilizes database programming and report design to lead the business lines with the highest level of service in multiple areas including sales strategy, business strategy, technical execution, and portfolio management.
Serves as a business and data expert, conducting analyses and interpreting results to provide information to management for business decisions and solutions. Creates and/or maintains data models used to make business decisions. Utilizes data models to analyze data and assess impact and/or risk to the business line. Interprets results of analysis and produces reports. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of data is maintained. Assists management with designing strategies to achieve business goals based upon data analysis. Tests potential changes to current data models to assess impact.
Work location: “Moments that Matter!” At Commerce Bank, we believe our team members are in tune with the needs of their respective role and professional enough to know when they should be in-person. This role is categorized as hybrid/flexible; meaning, a team member may work remotely from home except for those “moments that matter” and should live within a 3-hour radius of the Kansas City or St. Louis Commerce Bank locations. We would consider a “remote” (anywhere in the US) hire for the perfect candidate!
Essential Functions
Responsible for development and scheduled releases for relationship pricing model(s) and customer level profitability
Develop new reports and dashboards ranging from Sales metrics to financial trends to portfolio analysis
Setup databases with various levels of complexity for aiding in the explanation of P&L financial variances
Utilized for data management type initiatives which may require pulling and sending data from one, or more, system(s) or department(s) to another
Understanding of how database table/relationship structure to ensure data cleanliness and accuracy
Develop and implement databases, data collection systems/repositories for data analysis and consumption
Plan and facilitate regular meetings with work groups, including Executive, Senior, National and Department managers
Simplify very complex data to draw observations for all levels of management
Continue to think of new ways to potentially review the data differently and articulate findings to management
Coach others on best practices within the department
Coach others on report design, automation, query languages, visualization methods, etc.
Lead projects varying in size and scope for the department, if necessary
Schedule, structure and facilitate working sessions to develop/build consensus on data
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required
Understanding of reading/interpreting Profit and Loss Statements
Experience designing, managing, and continually improving business processes
Experience developing organizational policies and procedures and implementing by building consensus and stakeholder commitment
Experience with application management including version control
Demonstrated experience in handling large data sets and relational databases
Database programming (SQL), report design, Microsoft Access/Excel, Power BI or similar system tool and databases experience required
Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Previous work-related experience in systems, data management, data science determines level (BLDA I, II or III)
Previous experience with business intelligence, data warehousing, statistical analysis or visualization platforms will determine level (BLDA I, II, III)
