Meta is seeking a Visiting Researcher through a short-term contract to join our AI System SW/HW Co-Design team. We are seeking individuals with expertise in numerical optimization and high-performance computing for ML & AI applications. The role involves working closely with several product teams at Meta to optimize and improve distributed Deep Learning algorithms.This position is short-term employment for PhD students during the academic school year who will complete a minimum 6-month term.

Visiting Researcher, AI System SW/HW Co-Design Responsibilities:

• Applying coding skills to platform development projects in partnership with engineers on ranking and infrastructure teams.
• Adapting machine learning and neural network algorithms and architectures to exploit modern parallel environments (e.g. PyTorch, distributed clusters, multicore SMP, and GPU).
• Understand computer architecture to convert algorithmic bottlenecks into specific hardware optimizations.
• Analyze the shortcomings of existing systems.
• Design and build next generation systems to constantly be at the cutting edge.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related quantitative field.
• Experience in systems software or algorithms.
• Experience building systems based on machine learning and/or deep learning methods.
• Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
